    Hey all!

I’m a relatively new jazz pianist and I have a few questions regarding chords and improv.

1.) How do you start improvising so that the left and right hands have a role in playing voicings instead of separating melody with right hand and chords with the left? I was thinking more along the lines of Bill Evans.

2.) How many different ways of playing a certain type of voicing should I learn? For example, how many ways should I know how to play a Cmaj7?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kenrick

    Hey Kenrick, welcome!

First, I’d suggest submitting a Coaching plan so I can hear where you are at.

Have you taken a look at the step-by-step Standards approach I laid out in My Romance? That is the first step toward breaking up the chords between your hands.
